Mercedes-Maybach, the luxury sub-brand of Mercedes-Benz, has unveiled its first battery-powered vehicle, the 2024 EQS 680 SUV, signaling the sub-brand’s shift towards electric vehicles (EVs). The new EQS 680 SUV is an ultra-luxe version of the standard EQS SUV, with features that set it apart from other EVs and an upgraded powertrain.
Maybach has added its signature touches to the exterior of the new EQS 680 SUV, including a three-pointed star hood ornament, a solid front fascia adorned with chrome bars that mimic the sub-brand’s trademark Panamericana grille, more chrome details, and Maybach badging. The vehicle is also available with an optional two-tone paint job and either 21- or 22-inch monoblock wheels.

The interior of the EQS 680 SUV has been spruced up with the addition of the dash-spanning Hyperscreen, which has a Maybach-specific start screen. The vehicle will only be available with two rows of seats, with the option of two individual seats in the back that recline and feature extendable leg rests or a three-person bench. The center console features cup holders with spaces for champagne flutes, and there is an easily accessible refrigerated compartment in the trunk area to store bubbly. The front seatbacks are equipped with 11.6-inch touchscreens, and special Maybach lamps provide ambient lighting for the cabin.

In addition to its outlandish creature comforts, the Maybach EQS 680 SUV has a more potent powertrain than the standard EQS 580 SUV. The vehicle borrows the powertrain from the AMG EQS sedan, bumping up output to 649 horsepower and 700 ft-pounds of torque, allowing the SUV to go from zero to 60 mph in just 4.1 seconds. Maybach’s EV, like the regular Mercedes-Benz version, comes with a 108.4 kWh battery pack, which is good for 372 miles of range, according to the WLTP testing cycle.

Maybach has also added a specially tuned air suspension with a dedicated Maybach mode and four-wheel steering. The automaker has not yet announced the cost of the new EQS 680 SUV, but Motor1.com expects it to start at around $200,000. The vehicle is set to go on sale this fall.

Overall, the Maybach EQS 680 SUV represents a significant step forward in the luxury EV market, combining the opulence and prestige of the Maybach brand with the latest EV technology. It remains to be seen how well the vehicle will perform in terms of sales, but the vehicle’s impressive features and performance capabilities make it a compelling option for luxury car buyers looking to go electric.
