An anonymous buyer spent up to 1.38 million USD, equivalent to nearly 31.6 billion VND, to own this shirt in extremely new condition.
According to Heritage Auctions, this is the only UNC jersey authenticated (through photographs) that Michael Jordan wore it during the 1982-83 NCAA season, the second of three seasons “Mr. Air” played for North Carolina Tar Heels.
This season, MJ was voted the best player in the NCAA, averaging 20.0 points and 5.5 rebounds in 36 matches.
With this shirt selling at $1.38 million, it became the most expensive Michael Jordan shirt ever auctioned.
Previously, the record of $480,000 belonged to a Chicago Bulls jersey also worn by Jordan in the 1986-87 season.

“Records for selling prices appear almost every week with many items such as jerseys, shoes once worn by Michael Jordan, or rookie cards… Demand is increasing and shows no signs of stopping,” Heritage Auctions representative shared.
