Canadian pop superstar Justin Bieber has made headlines by selling the entire copyright to his catalog of 291 songs for a staggering $200 million. According to the UK’s National World newspaper, Justin Bieber made this decision to sell his song rights up to the end of 2021 to the company Hipgnosis Songs Capital for the aforementioned sum. As a result, this company now owns some of the biggest hits by the Canadian pop sensation, including “Baby” and “Sorry.” Hipgnosis Songs Capital will receive payments whenever Justin Bieber’s songs are played in public.
This transaction has significantly boosted Justin Bieber’s net worth, which is now estimated at approximately $485 million, as reported by the US magazine Parade. In addition, his wife, Hailey Bieber, has an estimated net worth of around $20 million. Together, the power couple boasts a combined net worth of roughly $505 million.
Before this latest deal, Justin Bieber had already crossed the $200 million mark in terms of net worth in 2014, thanks to selling over 150 million albums worldwide.
Scooter Braun, Justin Bieber’s manager for the past 15 years, commented on the sale, saying, “When Justin Bieber made the decision to proceed with this deal, we quickly found the best partner to preserve and develop his incredible legacy. Over 15 years of accompanying Justin Bieber, I am delighted to witness this moment.”
Meanwhile, Merck Mercuriadis, the founder of Hipgnosis, stated, “Justin Bieber’s impact on global culture over the past 14 years has been truly remarkable. At just 28 years old, he is one of the few megastars of the streaming era who has revived the entire music industry, taking loyal fans worldwide on a journey from teenage sensation to a culturally significant artist. This acquisition is among the largest ever made for an artist under 70 years old. It underscores the incredible power of Justin Bieber’s 291 songs, with nearly 82 million monthly listeners and over 30 billion streams on Spotify alone.”
Previously, singer-songwriter Justin Timberlake also agreed to sell the rights to 200 of his songs to Hipgnosis Songs Capital for $100 million.
